The caretaker committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi formally took over the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday. But the party’s former national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has insisted that he remains the true chairman of the party until the courts say otherwise. The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and the former National Working Committee (NWC) formally handed the mantle of leadership to the caretaker committee. While Sen. Walid Jubrin represented the BoT as chairman, former deputy national chairman, Uche Secondus, represented the former NWC. Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff was absent as he was reportedly out of the country. A former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar, yesterday told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he was in dialogue with the prosecution to settle the corruption charges against him out of court.The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on May 11 arraigned Umar on a seven-count charge on alleged money laundering to the tune of N4.8billion between 2011 and 2012. Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has said that they will be going on a nationwide strike starting from Thursday June 9th. President of the association, Muhammad Askira, announced this today June 7th. According to his family, he died in the early hours of today Wednesday June 8th of Cardiac arrest in Benin, Edo state. He was just 54 years old. He wasn’t even ill, he just suddenly died.
